The Movie of Your Life

What fun it must be for our Souls to design and create an experience!  But how exactly do we accomplish that? The best analogy is to put it in the context of a movie production.

The Soul is given the task by God to create an experience which explores an “I wonder” thought of God.  One of the “stages” that the Soul uses to explore and experience is our planet Earth.  The Soul designs a movie complete with plot, actors, supporting cast, and set – this is the “movie of your life.”  Your character-self (your current identity) is one part of your Soul’s creation and it is your role to live the “movie”.  You do this for your Soul, and ultimately for the experience knowledge of God.  God needs you for this experience knowledge!

The complexity of the world that has been created becomes inconceivably complex when you realize that there are many “I wonder” thoughts by God, and that each of these thoughts are being played out in multiple concurrent, intertwined movies.  We can’t begin to understand the complexity of the interaction, but we can know that we fulfill God’s desire to experience.  This makes life so much more fascinating and entertaining.

It’s All For You

You need to know the movie is all about you, and it’s all for you. Each of us is in our own world and quite literally, your world revolves around you. “That’s the most selfish thing I’ve ever heard”, you might say.  Well, truth is, you are the center of your own universe.  Everything in your movie is just for you, including feeling bad about children living halfway across the globe whom are starving.  If you are aware of it, it’s in your movie – your world.  This is God experiencing through you.

The Creative Mystic knows “it’s my world and it’s all for me.” From the character-self perspective, the universe is so immense that we can’t possibly grasp it. So focus your awareness on your world, your sphere of influence, the people and experiences that you attract.

Rather than saying something bad happened “to” you, adopt the perspective that it was created “for” you. Everything in your movie is designed for you to experience. When you get out of feeling like a victim, you open yourself to the divine plan that’s constantly unfolding by you, for you, as God experiencing through you.

Knowing it is all your world, created just for you, helps you shift from complaining about all the things you have to do, to having profound gratitude that you “get to” experience life in this way. It helps you remember that you are here to know the truth of many aspects of life and through those varied experiences, know and give love.

A Creative Mystic translates the “have to’s” into “get to’s” and constantly looks at events as opportunities. Nowhere else in the universe can any of these experiences be played out. We are truly fortunate and blessed to “get to” do any of this.

Setting the Stage

This is the movie of your life and you’re the star! The best part of this movie production is that you get to play, not just one role, but three distinct roles in the movie of your life! Not only are you the main actor but you are also producing the show and at the same time you are watching it as the audience.

In every moment you are simultaneously and seamlessly playing the role of the producer, audience and actor in the movie of your life.

In order for a movie to really hold your interest there are a number of tried and true components such as a compelling plot, conflict or challenge, and of course, pursuit of love. Rest assured your Soul has done a superb job of designing a perfect setting for your experience, complete with an entire cast of supporting actors and props. Your Soul has “set the stage” by selecting the location, the time period, the character roles to be filled, the circumstances of the characters, as well as many other considerations.

Can you picture it? Let’s go behind the scenes and see what’s happening.

Lights! Camera! Action!

A great flurry of activity is happening because the Creator has had an “I wonder…” thought. Simultaneously, a Soul is commissioned to explore that thought and begins to outline numerous scripts for the experience. Each outline script is handed to a character-self.

The character-self excitedly reads his outline script and says, “Wow!  This is going to be fantastic.” What an honor to be given this role, and the character-self is filled with gratitude.  He cannot wait to get started.

First the Soul contracts with a studio house (astrological arrangement) for the best possible stage for the intended experience. Then the Spirits of Creation, angels, and fairies all scramble with the set and costume designs. Spiritual agents are contracting with the main cast, supporting cast and extras. Writers, cameramen, and lighting specialists are all hired to assist in the production of your movie. Great consideration is given to each intricate and elaborate detail.

The Soul then elects a management board (your High Council) to oversee the entire production to make sure everything progresses according to the outline script.

When the character-self walks onto the set for the first time she is blown-away by the perfection of it all; in awe of the magnificent orchestration that it took to create the stage.  Now (and here comes the best part) the character-self gets to produce her own movie and adjust it as it goes to her liking.  Not only will she produce it, but she will also get to play the main actor, and she will be able to watch the production as the audience.

Ready?

Cool, huh? Could it get any better or more fun? What an incredible stretch of your creative Self to produce, act, and observe in the movie of your life!

And, yes, it’s going to take everything you’ve got.

The character-self walks over to the coveted producer’s chair and with a beating heart takes her seat. She brings the megaphone to her mouth and shouts, “Lights, camera, ACTION!”

The idea that we have a unique purpose for our lives is pervasive and this idea has motivated us throughout time to define an answer.  My friend Dayana, who converses with a group of spiritual beings named AMAG, offers another way to look upon this question.

AMAG says, rather than searching for your purpose, know that you have come here on purpose and as such you decide your purpose.

It’s that simple! Know that you have come here on purpose and as such you decide your purpose.

From this perspective, everything you do, everything you are, IS your purpose! You have come here on purpose to shine your unique Light and you cannot fail to do so. The book, “You Are God, Get Over It!” says you cannot help your unfolding – it is certain and, I will add, on purpose.

Knowing we are on purpose is reassuring but it also helps for us to define our unique Light so we are more consciously aware of this purpose.

Do you adhere to this “fundamental delusion”?

The last post I shared I talked about the  “fundamental delusion” that humans have. It’s a belief that there is something inherently wrong with humans; that there will always be some flaw or behavior that makes us “unworthy” and for which we need to atone.

The result: an internal conflict… a constant war within – the spiritual self against the lower ego self.  Oh my!

With that sort of an internal conflict, questions like, “how can we be worthy of God, or of being God, when we are so imperfect?”, start to become commonplace in our thoughts…

Well, it is time to put an end to the Fundamental Delusion!

The problem lies in the delusion that we are somehow separate from God, due to our inherent flaws and are only here on earth to work our way back. Saying that we are flawed with this imperfect ego is the same as saying that God has made a mistake, which is a dishonoring of our Creator.  Your ego was specifically designed and created to serve a function in duality and to facilitate the creation of your experiences.  How could it be otherwise?

Personally, I believe that our personalities are far too complex to be simplified into boxes such as the ego, and I question the very existence of such an entity, at least in the negative connotation. For every unconstructive attribute of what the flawed ego is supposedly made of, you can just as easily find a positive gift and purpose. The saying is: every vice is a virtue and vice versa.

What if there was no such thing as the flawed ego?

Many argue that our ego is where the undesirable and immature behavior patterns of humans reside. But perhaps there is another way to consider this. When a two-year-old throws a temper tantrum because his toy has been taken away, do we say that this child is flawed because he is upset?  No.  Behavior like this is typical for a two-year-old and no one questions that.  Eventually, as the child matures and grows in wisdom, he might even offer to share his toy.

Instead of thinking that humans are inherently flawed (which implies God has made a mistake) what I am suggesting is that everything that has happened in individual lives and thus far in the evolution of human consciousness has been created on purpose, and that we are simply growing up. Characteristics of the ego that seem immature are a necessary part of the evolution.  Saying that a mature ego is better can be no more valid than saying a forty year old is a better person than a two year old.  It’s simply a natural and necessary process of growing up, spiritually speaking.

Are you confused about the human ego?

The dictionary defines the ego as: the “I” or self of any person; a person as thinking, feeling, and willing, and distinguishing itself from the selves of others and from objects of its thought. Ummm. Sounds benign enough but unfortunately there is another context that has become much more prevalent these days: egotism; conceit; self-importance. 

A good friend of mine a couple weeks ago even defined the ego as “Edging God Out.”

This negative connotation of the human ego is what many of the popular religious and spiritual teachings maintain we need to rise above and/or transcend.  This way of thinking actually stems from the fundamental delusion that there is something inherently wrong with humans; that there will always be some flaw or behavior that makes us “unworthy” and for which we need to atone. The result is an internal conflict within which fosters the question, “how can we be worthy of God, or of being God, when we are so imperfect?” We find ourselves at constant war within – the spiritual self against the lower ego self.  We disconnect ourselves from the truth of who we are; whole and magnificent creators.

It’s been said that we are spiritual beings having a human experience.  And it is our desire to understand what it means to be “spiritual” that leads us to explore all manner of metaphysics.   It seems to make sense:  If I want to become more spiritual, I need to study more about spirituality.  Well, in order to do that we will need to define our terms more accurately.

The fact is we are Spirit.  We can’t help being anything but Spirit. In the previous Journal Pages we learned that Spirit is the animating force for Will or Divine Intention. Everything in the Universe is animated with Spirit. It is ubiquitous and unbiased. Spirit has no intention in and of itself and only seeks to animate Divine Will.

“What is my purpose?” has to do with your “calling” or how you came to serve mankind during your lifetime. This is what we traditionally think of as a job or profession. Whether you are a CEO of a multi-million dollar company or a destitute artist, an organizer of a homeless shelter, an engineer, or a housewife, in some way you serve mankind. Numerous books have been written on the subject of how to match aptitudes with a profession and, of the four aspects of your purpose, this is the one that young people in their 20’s and 30’s are most concerned with. The immediate pressure of finding a job that provides an income is a driving force. Sooner or later though, they become aware of a “calling” within that urges them to find fulfillment that feeds their soul. Whether they consciously know it or not, this fulfillment comes from expressing their Light and knowing that it matters. I have certainly felt “called” to write these Journal Pages and it fulfills an inner sense of purpose.  This is one of the ways I shine my Light. The purpose of this article is not to examine your aptitudes and find a profession that matches it – there are plenty of resources on the market to accomplish that. The purpose of this article is to bring something to your attention that I have never seen in print.

God needs you

You see, your Light is unique and there is no one else that can express that Light, therefore you are in a very strong bargaining position. God knows itself by experiencing life through us. What most of us don’t know (or don’t remember) is that God needs us as much as we need God. It’s a two-way street.  The universe needs you to express your Light and you feel it as an inner “calling”. Really understanding how you are needed by the universe may require letting go of some deeply conditioned thinking about your role in the cosmos. Popular traditions promote the idea that we must submit ourselves to God’s will. It is not uncommon for people to say they felt “called” to a profession or service and they feel intuitively they are fulfilling the will of a higher power. Unfortunately surrendering to this will often gets translated into “I must obey the will of God to the exclusion of my own”. I have seen the result of this thinking when I have met people that are fulfilling their inner calling by, for example, starting a business or moving to another location or some such endeavor and then have tried to answer that call with a devotion that is beyond reasonable. They have run themselves ragged and gotten horribly out of balance even to the point that they can no longer continue.

Exhausted

I remember talking to one such friend that had felt called to a healing profession and was working from sun-up to sun-down trying to accommodate her clients. One day at a luncheon she told me how exhausted she was and yet she felt that if the phone rang, it was part of her God-given calling to serve that client no matter what. I told her, “Wait a minute!  You have something to say in this. Have you forgotten that you are a co-creator with God? As such it’s vitally important to express your own will and tell God what your needs are. Don’t you know what a powerful position you are in to co-create a life of fabulous fulfillment? But in order to do so, you must express your will.”

Negotiate Your Contract

If you were interviewing for a high-ranking position at a major corporation, you would never think of saying an off-hand “yes” to whatever they offered you. You would enter confidently and powerfully into negotiation to define your salary, responsibilities, vacation packages, hours, promotional opportunities, and much more. Your potential employer would do the same, evaluating your skills, background, and how valuable they believe you would be to their organization. Most of us don’t realize that the universe operates in much the same way. Just because you feel “called” to a certain task or opportunity doesn’t mean that you don’t also have the opportunity to engage your will and negotiate your contract.

My Heavenly Marketers

For example, when I first got the inner calling to write my book, “Hiring the Heavens” I knew that I wanted certain conditions met. The main one was that, as a busy mom, wife and natural health practitioner, I did not have the interest, time or energy to market the book. So I negotiated a contract with heaven that basically said, “OK. I agree to write the book if you agree to handle the marketing of the book, through word of mouth and other means, so it can successfully reach the people it’s meant to serve.” I can honestly say my negotiation was successful and the marketing is working beautifully beyond my highest expectations! I have been able to speak on stage with some of the biggest names in the industry – without a doubt, the workings of my invisible marketing specialists. Tammy Holmes (a stranger to me at the time) called one day to ask if I would speak at her Awakenings Conference along with Marianne Williamson, Don Miguel Ruiz, Joe Vitale, Dan Millman and many others.  I asked her how she got my name.  She replied, “Spirit told me to get the author of “Hiring the Heavens”.  I didn’t even know if it was a book but I was near Barnes and Noble so I stopped in to see if such a book existed. Sure enough!  And that’s how I got your name.” I just smiled and thanked my invisible helpers. I am confident in the knowledge that heaven needs me for my unique Light and is more than willing to accommodate my wishes.

Checking Your Contract

How do you know if your contract has been accepted? You’ll know because as you go along with your life and you’ll notice that things flow that way. The universe confirms that your terms have been accepted. If you don’t find yourself in flow then renegotiate your contract. Perhaps you wanted to work only 20 hours a week on a project and it’s requiring 30 hours. You could renegotiate to receive more monetary compensation for the extra hours, or maybe additional vacation time to make up for them. Be bold and ask for what you want. Remember that God needs you in order to know itself. You’re the most qualified for the job of being you which means you’re in a great position to negotiate and get what you want. Then write out exactly what your terms are for accepting the position; articulate all the things that you most want just as if you were walking into a corporate office to negotiate an executive employment contract. Co-creation is the ultimate win-win experience!
