What is Dowsing? 5 things you should know!

So what is dowsing exactly? Most people associate the term ‘dowsing’ with the process of using rods or branches to help locate water sources. Actually, dowsing encompasses a much broader concept that includes the use of any object, such as a pendulum, to tune in to certain frequencies.

Dowsing has been historically used to find water sources

Still, it’s fascinating to think that dowsing has been used to find water since the beginning of recorded history. Yes, I am talking possibly thousands of years! Even to this day certain companies will have a ‘dowser’ on board to locate optimal sites for drilling wells and locating water. So what can dowsing do for me personally?

Dowsing tunes into energy frequencies

Dowsing is simply a method for tuning into a particular frequency of energy information, much like you would use a radio dial to tune in to a particular station. Right now there are countless frequencies happening in our airspace; to pick up on any of them we need a receiver. Dowsing is much like that. It’s about being able to tune in and become a receiver of information. You simply ask yes/no questions and see the response in the receiver!

What instruments can you use for dowsing?

There are a plethora of dowsing instruments out there including pendulums, rods, bobbers, even your own body!

My favorite is the pendulum, but you really dont need any tool. For the pendulum, up and down means yes, while back and forth means no, just like shaking your head. If you want to use your body stand up straight and close your eyes, focus in and ask a question. Feel your body falling forward for yes and backward for no, its that simple!

What are pendulum charts?

Pendulum charts help increase the amount of communication you can have through your pendulum. They are comprised of various charts that align with the rotational motion of the pendulum to provide specific answers. For example, there is a chart of the alphabet. I used this to communicate with my new pup to spell out the name she wanted. The pendulum swung C…..O…….Z…….Y, Cozy! What an adorable and fun way to communicate.

I first discovered dowsing when I went to a chiropractor who used dowsing to identify a mineral deficiency that I had. After leaving his office I went straight to a natural health store to pick up the supplement he had recommended. I told my story to a little old lady working there who suggested that I check out the Sacramento ASD (American Society of Dowsers). Looking back, it was certainly a turning point in my life and was extremely instrumental in opening my intuitive right brain.

Now, I’m certainly not one to join groups, but I was immediately attracted to dowsing because of its lack of dogma. Rather than pushing some kind of one-size-fits-all answer, they’d say, “Dowse it out for yourself and see what’s true.” I’ve since been to dowsing conferences all over the nation and have met a fascinating variety of people who dowse on everything from improving their gardening to communicating with aliens.

Check out the American Society of Dowsers for yourself. Dowsing may be a wonderful tool for intuition that you will love as well.

Hire the Heavens – Help Is Just a Thought Away

Hire the Heavens for all tasks, big and small

This is your time to Hire the Heavens! Angels are just waiting to be hired, they want to help no matter how big or small the ask.

Remember – there is no right or wrong way to Hire the Heavens! You can make it as specific or as broad as you like. It can be the most complicated ask or as simple as asking for curtains. Regardless of how you ask, the important thing is that you do it! Hire the Heavens and see just how much they love to help!

Spiritual curtain professional

A sweet occurrence from this evening: Looking for curtain material.

The sales clerk shows me a section.. not right.. So I say quietly to my ‘committee’- the clerk has walked several steps away and cannot hear me: “I want solid material that is translucent and solid color on both sides that would work for curtains and I need lots of colors to choose from”

In that minute the clerk has just come back and says to me: “have you seen the $2 a yard shelf? It is right behind you” And, I turn around

and there are two shelves of exactly the material I am looking for.

Being Your Authentic Self

Have you ever been scared to open up to others?

Being your authentic self can sometimes be hard. Let’s face it, the work I do is a bit out there… a bit on the woo woo side of things. Finding a way to open up to others can be daunting sometimes, especially if their beliefs differ. But a recent experience reminded me just how it important it is to stay true to your authentic self. You never know what true connections you might make in the process.

Allowing myself to open up

I was at an Easter party recently and met an old acquaintance that was very interested in hearing what I have been up to in the last few years.

We quickly found a common meeting ground with our views on spirituality and became surprisingly open with one another. I watched his face for any sign of skepticism as I went more in depth about my thoughts. His eyes were unflinching. So I kept going until I reached a point where I thought surely my ideas would shock and offend him but still he remained open and encouraging.

Stop holding yourself back

I observed myself in this process with some amusement. It seemed as though I was reluctant to be my authentic self until I knew it was safe. Safe from what? Who knows, maybe ridicule or disdain or maybe even something as benign as mild disagreement. And even if that happened, so what!

By the end of our conversation I found myself being very impressed with his views and insights. He may have even shocked me a little. I was very grateful he had the courage to be his authentic self and speak his truth. It was a wonderful exchange that only happened because of the willingness to be open and provide a “safe” space.

If you don’t speak your truth, who else will?

Spiritual Exercise to Seeing the Purpose In Your Relationship
Time to experience the purpose in your relationship

Did you know that your relationships have a purpose and they don’t happen “by accident?” And I mean ALL your relationships, not just romantic. Your friends, co-workers and yes, even your family members do not happen by accident!

Pick a relationship and lets have some fun

Here’s a simple spiritual exercise that can give you insight into the purpose of your relationship and why you are being drawn together. I did this a few years ago and was amazed at how succinctly the primary focus of my marriage was highlighted. To exemplify this exercise, I will be speaking about romantic relationships but you really can do it with any.
What you’ll need:

Tarot deck or Angel Oracle deck

Journal to take notes

An inquisitive mind and an openness to the fun spiritual exercise process
Couples are attracted to each other in a large part by the energy they put off. It’s as if our soul is an incredibly complex software program and included in this software is all the information about us — past, present and even where our intentions will take us in the future. On an unconscious level we are attracted to our mate because he or she completes this intention of our soul. There is purpose that will be fulfilled by your togetherness. So are you ready to find out the purpose in your relationship? Let’s begin!

Spiritual exercise instructions

To find out what that purpose is you’ll need a Tarot deck or angel oracle. (You can find out more about using this method by visiting my blog)
1. Shuffle the cards a few times and focus on the question, “What is the primary purpose my mate is in my life?”
2. Now, spread the cards on a table face down and with no ceremony whatsoever, pick a card. Don’t think about the “right” card to pick; just let your guidance direct you. It’s actually best to do this fast so that your conscious mind has no time to think.
3. After you have drawn your card, look up the meaning in the corresponding book for the deck.
4. Take as much time as you need to think about your answer. How does it feel reading the meaning of the card? Does it resonate with you? Is there a certain sentence or phrase that stands out to you?
5. Next shuffle the deck again and focus on the next question; “What is the primary purpose I am in my mate’s life?”
6. Spread the cards and repeat the process.
You will be as amazed as I was of the clarity behind the answers. This will bring about a whole new appreciation for your partner as you recognize and honor your soul’s purpose for being together.

Knowing that you bring each other unique and oftentimes very different purposes, how best can you use this knowledge to be more fulfilled or be more fulfilling in your relationship?

How To Hire A Spiritual Angel Committee

There is no right or wrong way to hire a Spiritual Angel Committee

There are so many ways you can talk with your angels/celestial staff. You can write to them, imagine having conversations with them in your head or just think of what you want and ask for help. You can be as organized as you would like or spontaneously ask in the moment. I guarantee your Spiritual Angel Committees are just delighted you’re asking, no matter the method!

I want to provide you with an example. I have known Lee for 30 years and she is one of my dearest friends – family really. She has watched me grow and evolve throughout the years. She took to the idea in my book Hiring the Heavens like a duck to water and has had fabulous success. Here she writes about her first experience with it.

A staff, just a spiritual one

From Lee’s Journal

One July in 2000, I remember having a conversation with Jean Slatter about her spiritual staff. I was working for a large corporation at the time and I joined into that conversation like I knew what she was talking about. I said I know just how that feels. When my staff is doing good work and particularly when that good work is collaborative and mutually supportive that the work process and results felt spiritual.

Nooo! She smiled patiently. I mean spiritual, as in another dimension. Wow! What was she talking about? This I had to know more about. Jean explained that while she was here in this town at a business conference, her staff was managing her phones and appointments back at her office. She had total confidence in them and had excellent results. She provided some more information about how she discovered this work force and how she had begun hiring them.

Now she has a book explaining the background but then it was her experience and enthusiasm that captured my attention.

We are all a bit woo-woo

I was very happy for her but this was Jean and her stock in trade was the unusual, the out of the ordinary, the just this side of woo-woo. I seriously doubted those spiritual helpers would give me the time of day. Now don’t get me wrong I had in the past petitioned St. Christopher to help me make safe trips and St. Anthony to help me find lost items but I had long forgotten those petitions. More importantly, I didn’t even make the connection between my Saint petitions and her hired help of spirits.

About a year later my son’s condition worsened. The events of the September 11, 2001 attack affected his already fragile state in a frightening way. I had already spent a great deal of money paying for doctors but there was never enough money and the results were always mixed. He somehow never qualified for medical aid.

I remembered Jean’s Spiritual Angel Committees

Hiring the Heavens

I spoke to Jean to be clear about the process to hire my committee. I had nothing to lose. I hired a committee to find a Doctor with the skills to most effectively treat my son. We placed many calls to many Doctors over the next 3 weeks. Only one Doctor returned our call. But he was the right Doctor. He began working with my son. He prescribed a medication that helped my son. The medication was $10 per capsule and he needed at least one per day. There were days he needed as many as three capsules.

This expense, Doctor bills and some physical problems in need of treatment were a daunting prospect. I asked the committee for more help in resolving these issues. In the meantime I spent many hours researching and asking for advice. Step by step the solutions began to emerge.

The Doctor convinced the drug manufacturer to provide the medication at no charge. This arrangement was temporary but it bought me some time. He explained that my son’s condition was chronic. I applied for medical help. At my request the Doctor wrote a letter that was accepted to qualify my son for Medical Aid.

The Doctor continued to convince the drug company to provide the medication at no charge. This process was not easy and took about 11 months before the Medical Aid became available. Yet, I am convinced I had a spiritual staff providing superb support.

Over the previous years this heartbreak was the private property of our family. Now I had help – help that could be measured in this physical world. It was wonderful to have help. With a spiritual staff, doors that did not exist in the past appeared and one by one the individual issues were managed. Thank You.

I now have a permanent spiritual staff and many times I have hired many temporary personnel. I am happy to share a couple of my spiritual angel committees with you in hopes that you too would “hire” them. I feel they do a superb job and I wouldn’t want to be without them.

Spiritual Angel Committee to Bless our Shelters

This started for the tenants in our rental cottage. I wanted them to have shelter but also blessings. Now the prayer is for the rental, our home, the home of my daughter, my grandchildren and so on and I ask the blessing include our vehicles.

Dear Committee:

Please infuse a blessing on our home, the land on which it sits including all buildings and structures, all plants and animals and water and air. Please extend this blessing to our vehicles and vehicles in which we are passengers.

Fill these places with light and love, comfort and convenience, safety and security. Let all who enter have a sense they are in a safe, loving place.

Dowsing to communicate with your pets!

It seems nothing short of a miracle when we use dowsing to communicate, and receive an answer! Whether it is with our Higher Self or our little furry friends, using dowsing to communicate can be a fun and enlightening experience.

Animals can choose their name

Years ago I obtained an adorable Chihuahua from a rescue center. They had named her Ruby May and said she used to be called another name which I have forgotten. When I arrived home with her, I used dowsing to communicate and I asked my new little pet if she liked her name Ruby May. She replied emphatically “No!”

To do this, I used a pendulum to receive my yes/no answers letting it swing clockwise for yes and counterclockwise for no. I then proceeded to go through a number of pet names that I thought were cute asking her if she liked them. One by one she ruled them all out.

Finally I asked, “Well do you have a name already picked out that you would like to be called?” “Yes!” she responded.

“Can you spell it for me?” I asked. “Sure” she was happy to say.

I got out a dowsing chart with the alphabet on it and watched in fascination as the pendulum pointed to a C, O, Z, Y. Cozy! I about fell over in astonishment because when I was talking with the rescue lady I asked her if this dog was a good lap dog and she replied, “Oh yes, this is a cozy girl!”

She is indeed a Cozy Girl.

Can you think of other ways of dowsing to communicate?

As you can see, you can use dowsing for such fun tasks! Of course pets may want to have a certain name and I was able to ensure Cozy got the name she wanted by using dowsing to communicate. That got me thinking of all the many other ways I can use my pendulum to communicate with the world around me.

Spiritual Enlightenment

As One

What does spiritual enlightenment mean to you? Here’s a great article by one of my editors:

Unlimited creative potential

All I wanted was the truth. What I got however, was a massive dose of deception. And so did you for that matter. We’ve all been duped into believing that we are separate from God, which has got to be one of the all-time greatest spiritual challenges that we have ever faced. (God being just one of many words used to describe the source of unlimited creative potential of which we are a part of and couldn’t be separated from even if we wanted to be.)

Truth is we are multi-dimensional beings with an unquenchable thirst for adventure. (Spiritual amnesia…who’s idea was that?)

Now, as much as I believe that we all have what it takes to become a fully enlightened master like Jesus or Buddha, the odds of that happening for me in the lifetime are pretty slim. What IS possible however, is to communicate with our Higher Self and learn how to interpret and utilize the information and guidance we receive in order to enhance our earthly experience.

You have the answer

In this way we become our very own personal psychic, yet there is much more to it than that. Asking, “What does my future hold?” can only be answered by you. After all, who knows you better than you?

When I want to know the truth about something, I always go directly to the source – the part of me that’s holding all the cards, so to speak. At times the guidance comes in bits and dribbles in the form of insights, intuition, and synchronicities, while at other times the guidance seems more like a command that I am given to follow.

Once when I was confused about which direction my career should take, I had a dream that specifically told me the name of a man that I needed to ask for a job. Although I wasn’t sure what kind of job I was supposed to ask him for and I was scared to put myself out there like that, I did it anyway and was hired on the spot.

Higher Guidance connection

Establishing a connection to my higher guidance has certainly been a labor of love. Here are a few disciplines that have worked for me:

·         Surrender to a higher power/intelligence (of which I am a part of).

·         Accept ‘what is’ without trying to manipulate, control, or judge. Affirm that I am exactly where I need to be (or I would be someplace else).

·         Ask for what I want and remain unattached to the outcome. If I am unclear about what to ask for, “Telling me what I need to know” works just as well.

·         Become self-centered. Mind my own business. Build integrity; say yes when I mean yes and have the courage to say no when I mean no.

·         Create sacred space. Let go of people, places, and things that drain energy. De-clutter my home, my car, my mind. Refuse to own a television set.

·         Engage the senses. Pay attention to dreams. Acknowledge synchronicities. Follow your inner leader.

·         Cultivate an attitude of gratitude…for everything! Spirit loves to be acknowledged.

Relying on higher guidance has become a way of life for me; it’s about me learning to trust me and knowing what is for my highest and best good. And, when I feel concerned about my future in this ever-increasing chaotic world, I affirm that I will be guided to exactly where I need to be.

And so will you.

Spiritual enlightenment – a fancy term with a simple meaning

As you can see – spiritual enlightenment can mean so many things; ranging from the most minute moments to the biggest. Your Higher Guidance is there for you, to guide you but also to cheer you on, even when you have no idea what you’re doing.

Trust that there is a purpose and as Lois said, surrender. Whether you realize it or not, you designed this life for yourself.

Spiritual Committees, Are There Rules?

What to know about spiritual committees

In my book, Hiring the Heavens, I discuss hiring a spiritual committee for all of your everyday and long term needs. For many, this concept is new and can seen daunting at first. I received a wonderful question from one of my readers and thought I would share it, along with my response.

Beginning life anew

Greetings Jean, just wanted to let you know that your powerful little book has been the catalyst for me as I begin my life anew. I’m 55, a full time legal assistant, with a deep passion for all things esoteric and metaphysical, I’m a grandmother, and have just left a painful 10-year relationship.

Up until now, I’ve always found reasons to delay exploring where my deep knowledge of metaphysics might take me. I’m currently in the process of preparing two of your Committee Worksheets. One is for health & vitality, and the other is for a “life vision board” which I’m itching to create.

I’d like to know your opinion about attempting to work with two committees at the same time. Each committee has 5 members. I tend to be quick out of the starting gate with projects, then falter as time passes–I don’t want that to happen as I launch into this new phase of my life, and each of the committees are vitally important to my goals, but I have concern about whether I may be spreading myself too thin, spiritually speaking. Any input or guidance you can share with me regarding that would be greatly appreciated.

My response – no rules

Thanks for writing to me. I know your spiritual committees will make a huge difference in your life. Soon you’ll wonder how you ever got along without them. The main thing to remember is that there are no rules about this.

You can’t get it wrong.

Just make sure it stays light and fun – if it gets too rigid and complicated you’ll lose the spirit of the process. Keep lighthearted and celebrate life with all of the creation possibilities.

Your spiritual committee – your choice

You see, your celestial beings are here for you. They are rooting for you in each of your endeavors and want to help you along the way! It does not matter how many committees you have, what their composition is or what their roles are, as long as you feel good about it. As I said in my response, you really cannot get it wrong. Just have fun, that is what life is about!

In August, I attended the International Dowsing Conference in Vermont with my “partners in light.” We took 7 days of workshops on everything from dowsing for water, to what was in store between now and 2011. Well let me tell you, what an experience. The most powerful message I got was to hire the heavens. Jean Slatter led the class and it was based on her book “Hiring the Heavens,” I personally did not attend the class however one of my partners did and she shared a powerful message.

There are a bunch of guides and angels out there waiting to help, all we have to do is call on them. They want to help but cannot unless we ask. Being a Hypno-therapist and spiritual advisor, I have been telling my clients this for a while, however, somehow I had forgotten to do it myself. I have practiced the Law of Attraction, manifesting my desires, etc. but somehow felt the need to be a control freak and do it all myself. You know, make things happen rather than allow things to happen.

Spiritual committees ready for hire

Since I was gently reminded of this, I started hiring different committees to help speed up and give me a hand on some things that have been challenging. In doing that I just said, “hey I want to hire a committee to help me get the property sold, I want to hire a committee to keep bill collectors off my back until my land sells, I want a committee to help bring my twin soul twin flame to me” then I let go. I did not worry about it or try to force it. I released it and said “whatever”, I trust it will come in the right time and place.

Since doing this, my land in NY is scheduled to close tomorrow morning which means my closing on Celestial Blessings is taking place soon after that. I have met the person I consider to be my Twin Soul/Twin Flame. The bill collectors won’t start to repo and turn me over to the “other collectors” until Oct. 15th, by which time my closing should happen and therefore I will be able to pay them off. So, there you go, ask for help and trust that it is there. Want more? Here’s another one…

Even a spiritual exterminator

So life was going on as usual during Sept. when I noticed mouse droppings in the kitchen. I don’t like mice, so I had begun trapping them in a garbage can with peanut butter in the bottom of it, under my sink (catch and release) – Like 15 in 4 days! When my friend said to me “ why don’t you call on a committee of exterminators?” I said, “well I did not think about that”, so I did.

Do you know that I have not seen or caught a mouse since, not one sign of one and that was over a month ago. Cool huh? Again, all I had to do was ask for the help.

We are living in an awesome time right now. I think there are more spirit beings helping us now than ever. Spend time with yourself and call on your helpers and let them do the work. This will free up your time so that you can help others understand life does not have to be hard and we can have what we want if we work with love and not fear.

Prioritize yourself

Take a few minutes a day for yourself. Figure out what makes you happy. Learn to ask for help to get you to that place of happiness. Oh, money is nice but it does not buy happiness. Happiness is an emotion or a feeling not a material thing.

For the last 2 years I have used the affirmation ‘I have all the money I need to do what ever I need to do’ and guess what, I do. I truly do. I have come from having nothing to having everything I need and want.

My life is becoming more simple and my dreams are being fulfilled. In two days I will have my home paid for and I will be able to have the freedom to explore my next course of action without the stress of mortgage payments or how I will afford my electric and phone bill.

There is always time to start hiring the heavens

One interesting eye opener, a few weeks back I came across a journal I had written in 2000. In there I had entered a reading I had with Eric Larson an excellent reader and astrologer and he told me then “Do not make any decisions without consulting your angels or your guides.” 8 years later, I am finally getting it.

My hope is that you read my story and save yourself 8 years of confusion and uncertainty and decide what you want and “Hire the Heavens” like Jean Slatter teaches. May your life from this point forward move in the direction that brings you love and joy, after all, you do deserve it.

Definition Of Serendipity And How Hiring The Heavens Can Work For You

Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely. (Wikipedia)

Serendipity is certainly the best word I can think of to describe the little miracles in our lives. I have heard the word serendipity and enlightenment linked together, and this is certainly what I have experienced when working with the principles in Hiring the Heavens. It is a good word with joy in its meaning. It feels good in the mouth and on the lips. And it definitely feels good when it happens.

Hiring the Heavens creates serendipitous moments

To exemplify how working with the principles in Hiring the Heavens has created the most enlightened and serendipitous moments, I am going to tell you a story about my son and his need for a new computer. An every day task that the Heavens are just yearning to help with!

My son wanted to get a new laptop for college but he kept putting it off knowing the cost would be more than he could afford. He was studying film production and the hardware and software for that industry is not cheap. One day he called me about an ad he saw on Craigslist for a laptop.

“It’s probably too good to be true but could you see what you get for an intuitive hit on this one?” he asked.

Celestial computer sales specialist

I imagined talking to a computer sales specialists in the spiritual realm and asked if this would be a good deal for my son. I immediately got a response that said YES! with a great deal of urgency. I told my son to hang up and get over to the seller’s house without delay.

He was able to buy a complete package with more and better software than he ever hoped of owning for a fourth of the cost. When he called me back I could hear the excitement in his voice. He said that if I hadn’t told him to go immediately he would have missed out on the best deal of his college years.

That’s serendipity.

Take the time to ask

My son had the intuition to look on Craigslist for a laptop. Even though he felt the deal too good to be true, he asked anyways. As I have said before, ask and you shall receive.

These moments of serendipity are everywhere, waiting to occur. Our Divine friends LOVE putting a smile on our face as we get everything we asked for, and oftentimes more! But thats the thing, we do have to ask.
