A fan of Hiring the Heavens wrote to Oprah! Here’s her letter – you’ll love her inspirational story.
Dear Oprah,
As a former librarian, I love to browse in my local Barnes & Noble bookstore and see what grabs my attention. Several years ago a small book jumped out at me, so I purchased it and took it home to read The book was called Hiring the Heavens by Jean Slatter. The premise of this small, easy-to-read book is that Heaven is full of angels just waiting to be called upon to help us with the problems in our lives. I had been using the concept for years when in need of a parking space, trying to find lost keys, etc. This book takes the concept of celestial help to a new level and says we have to ask for help as we have free will and the angels aren’t supposed to interfere with our daily decisions and choices unless invited by us to do so.
So I tried it on a bigger level and right out of the blue found a doctor who could help me with my thyroid.
I had been reading about hypothyroidism and wishing I could find a doctor in the Atlanta area to help me, but they all seemed to be in California, southern Florida, or some other state where it was too far for me to go for regular treatment. Within days of asking for help with this, I wandered into a health food store only a mile from me, but which I had never visited before that day. As I purchased my vitamins, I noticed a book lying by the cash register called Hypothyroidism, Type II, by a Dr. Mark Starr. When I turned to the back to see what his credentials were, I discovered he was located in Marietta about 20 miles from where I live.
I called and made an appointment, and within six months I had lost 37 pounds, had more energy, was happier and feeling better than I had in years – all thanks to his correcting my sluggish thyroid.
I started sharing this book with friends. Then two years ago I met an animal communicator from Florida who is also a healer and does workshops around the country. In talking with her it turned out she also knew of this wonderful little book and gives a copy to everyone attending her workshops and seminars.
I know you have a book club and like to suggest books to your viewers to read. I don’t know if this one has been on your list or not, but I wanted to send you a copy in case it had not come to your attention before now. With your focus on the spiritual/metaphysical world, I thought your would find it interesting.
When you first announced you would be forming OWN, I sent a proposal for a TV show interviewing people I had heard speak whom I thought would make interesting guests. Not too long after I heard back from your people life got in the way, first with the death of my father in 2009, then my brother-in-law in
2010 followed by my only sister in 2011. Planning funerals, handling their affairs and clearing out houses took all my time so that I never had the opportunity to respond to your staff, who had asked for my outline.
In the meantime, you were already interviewing some of the people I had in mind, such as Dr. Wayne Dyer, Esther and Jerry Hicks, Dr. Brian Weiss and Eckhart Tolle, whose series with you I enjoyed immensely. In
2006 I had given my proposal with the 26 guests I had in mind to a friend I once worked with at CNN. He became gravely ill with lung cancer soon after, so was unable to help me. However, knowing how the Universe works, just by putting the energy out there as I did may have contributed to bringing this into reality as you have done, As I told friend recently, what is important is the message, not the messenger. And you can reach far more people than I would have been able to do. So I want to thank you for making this information available and allowing more people to be exposed to these transforming ideas.
By the way, I was one of five bidders at my Unity church to get to take your friend and colleague, Marianne Williamson, to dinner when she was in Atlanta two years ago. We had a delightful conversation and found we agreed on many things. With the goddess energy returning to earth it seems as if the women will lead the way into the new era as it approaches and help people find their spiritual connection to the Source.
You certainly are an inspiration to many of us in the example you set with all that you do for others and the love you share in helping the planet be a better place for us to live. I wish you continued success in your new venture as well as any others you decide to undertake in the future. And I hope you like the book.
